DC Stoddert Soccer is delighted to announce the appointment of Maria Lyon as Marketing and Communications Fellow effective February 9, 2016. Lyon joins the club while also serving as Club Sports and Intramurals Coordinator at Loyola University of Maryland.
A native of Gambrills, MD, Lyon played club and high school soccer before pursuing refereeing and soccer officiating as a student employee at the University of Maryland, University Recreation & Wellness. She was a four-year employee for the Intramural Sports department, rising to the ranks of Senior Supervisor, and specialized in officiating soccer and flag football. She additionally worked for the Sport Clubs and Safety and Risk Management departments. In 2015, Lyon received her undergraduate degree in kinesiology from the University of Maryland and intends to pursue a career in collegiate recreation.
“Soccer is the love of my life. I'm excited to work for such a prominent organization in the area and help share the game with others. I think my time at DC Stoddert will help enrich my career in collegiate recreation by diversifying my skill set and experiences. I'm looking forward to growing with the club during my time here.”
In making the announcement, Executive Director Douglas Homer said, "We are delighted to welcome Maria into the Stoddert Nation. Her enthusiasm for the sport combined with a passion for coaching, working with youth and learning the intricacies of non-profit organizations will add to her experiences on and off the field."
Lyon will assist Homer along with other members of the club's management team in developing communications, marketing materials and other digital media campaigns that raise awareness about the club's programs and service to the community.
