As most of you know, Stoddert requires that all coaches obtain the F license. This is a 5-hour course with three age group modules, appropriate for coaches of U6-U8, U8-U10, or U10-U12 players. Those who have F licenses and/or who are coaches of older players are asked to continue their education by attending at least one 1-hour continuing education unit (CEU) each year.
Among the ways that coaches can fulfill CEUs: attending coaches’ clinics at Stoddert or Arlington Soccer Association (the two clubs have a reciprocity arrangement); observing a DC Stoddert travel team practice; auditing the field portion of an F course; going to a DC United coaches’ session; getting the E license.
Kate Samsot is teaching an F course/U6-U8 Module in DC on Tuesday, April 9th (classroom work from 7-9 pm) and Sunday April 14th (field work from 12 noon – 3 pm). Sites for the course are the Jelleff Boys & Girls Club (classroom) and Hearst Recreation Center (field work).
The F course takes the approach that the “game within the child” is at the center of all belief, decisions, and actions taken by the child, coach, and organization. This course will focus on the age groups of U6-U8 (Pre-K through 2nd grade) with all course activities and model practice sessions related to those age groups.
THE APRIL F COURSE IS NOW FULL. KATE HAS SCHEDULED AN ADDITIONAL F course/U-6-U8 Module ON SUNDAY, MAY 19TH FROM 12 NOON - 5 PM. Classroom work will be at Jelleff Boys and Girls Club from 12-2 and field work will be at Hearst field from 2-5 pm.
Kate is also teaching an E course in DC from June 13th through June 15th, with the classroom work from 6-9:30 p.m. Friday and mostly field work from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Venue TBA. The E course focuses on developing individual players and teams in the U12 – U16 age groups. This course is also a prerequisite for all coaches wishing to take the D Course (most likely coaches of travel teams). No D courses are scheduled in DC yet.
Kate is working with Bob Bigney (technical director in Arlington) to develop a comprehensive list of continuing education clinics for the spring season. This will be available on the Stoddert website later this month. Meanwhile, please note that Stoddert’s sessions are tentatively scheduled for Sundays from 12 noon – 1 pm at Hearst Recreation Center, starting April 21st.
