According to The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, February temperatures are now running 5-7 (F) degrees below normal across the region. Interestingly enough, this past Sunday was the coldest day on record since February 5, 1996. Is relief in sight? Not quite. Punxsutawney Phil came out on Groundhog Day 2015 and saw his shadow, promising six more weeks of winter.
Despite all of the frigid conditions, kids across the Stoddert Nation are keeping active by playing a variety of sports as well as engaging in a bit of pick up soccer or the every-popular City Fives! futsal league. Others have preferred workouts with their respective travel teams, either indoors at a local school or at one of the synthetic turf fields across the city.
As kids get fit, we've been busy preparing for the spring season with the return of FIRST KICK 2015weekend on April 11-12. One step in that direction is our 2nd Annual OPEN HOUSE & CLEAT EXCHANGE on Saturday, March 14th at the clubhouse here in Tenleytown. Doors open at 10am and we'll be hand to help you find a pair of boots and answer questions about registering your son or daughter for a spring clinic and/or the upcoming spring season. We'll give away a few posh prizes from our friends at Ewing Sports & Nike so plan to drop by on March 14th!
I'll conclude by putting a call out to the membership for volunteers to help coach a team or serve as a manager. We have vacancies across all of our age groups and would be delighted to help you set up for the spring season. If interested, drop a line to Tom Gross via e-mail.
