DC Stoddert Scholarships
DC Stoddert Soccer believes that all children who are selected to play in its travel or developmental program should be able to play, regardless of the income of the family of the player. Because the fees for playing in the travel or developmental program are not affordable for some players, DC Stoddert, through the generous contributions of many Stoddert supporters, offers scholarships to fund the majority of the Stoddert fees for eligible travel or developmental players.
Process
Stoddert has a Scholarship Committee made up of volunteers who review the applications of all players who request a scholarship. In order to ensure fairness to all applicants, the Scholarship Committee must have in hand by June 30th two documents from each applicant: 1) a completed Travel Scholarship Request Form (to download and print, click
HERE) and 2) ONE of the following documents that provide proof of income: a) the first page of the most recent U.S. Federal Tax Return (Form 1040), or b) a copy of the most recent W-2 Wage and Tax Form or c) proof of eligibility for TANIF Free Lunch Program or Food Stamps. If possible, any Social Security numbers that appear on these documents should be blacked out before submitting them. All documents submitted will be held in confidence. These documents should be completed and mailed to DC Stoddert, Inc., Attention: Registrar, P.O. Box 9594, Washington DC 20016.
All players must also register on-line at www.stoddert.com. For those players requesting a scholarship, the box asking if you are requesting a scholarship should be checked “yes”. No players can be rostered to play on any travel teams unless they are registered in the Stoddert system. Anyone who needs assistance with the registration process should contact the Stoddert Registrar at 202-338-1910, ext 302
All scholarship players are also asked to pay a minimum of $100 per season. Any player who cannot pay the minimum fee must indicate that on the Request for Scholarship Form and the Scholarship Committee will determine a minimum fee for that player.
The Scholarship Committee will meet in July and determine which players are eligible for full or partial scholarships. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee will be communicated to the managers of each travel team and to the player’s family. The decisions cover one soccer-year (both fall and spring season) so no new documents will be required for the spring season. In general, families of four with an income level below $75,000 per year will be awarded a full scholarship. Families with greater income may be awarded a full or partial scholarship, based on the income level, number of children, family situation and other factors reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
