WAGS Div. 3

HISTORY: The Fusion has played together since many of the girls were nine-year-olds on DC Stoddert coach Karen Kelser’s developmental squad. Since then, the team has played in WAGS every season except for one championship season in ODSL. The Fusion advanced to Division 3 in Spring 2007, played a strong season, and began Fall 2007 at the top of WAGS’s top GU17 division. Spring 2008, the Fusion finished strong in the GU19 div. 3 despite injuries that left the team short-handed.

PRACTICES: The team practices twice a week during the season, including one Saturday aftenoon in northwest Washington, DC. The Fusion plays indoor soccer in winter.

TRYOUTS:  The Fusion seeks high impact, skilled, hardworking and experienced players to join the team for the Fall ’08 season and beyond. For tryout information, click here.
The girls receive outstanding, positive instruction from Coach Andre Russo (USSF D License), former standout GWU varsity and semi-pro player. Players interested in trying out for the team should contact the coach or
or manager Meg Clarke.

TOURNAMENTS: The Fusion typically plays at least one pre- and one post-season highly competitive tournament in both fall and spring.

This May, two players helped the VISTA Fury (WAGS champion divions) beat Pennsylvania’s Vincent United for the GU17 championship in the competitive Potomac Memorial Day Tournament.

In March, the Fusion narrowly lost in the last few minutes to Pennsylvania’s AFFC FIre in the Prince William (Va.) Soccer Inc.’s Icebreaker Tournament, one of the biggest  spring preseason tournaments in the nation.

Last November, the team triumphed in the Soccer Association of Columbia’s Fall ClassIc. (Photo, right).

In the Labor Day 2007 Whitewater Cup, the Fusion finished a close second, having given up one goal the entire tournament. The Fusion als finished a close 2nd in the championship of the Jamestown Cup Memorial Day, 2007, tournament.
